So I had a thought. I know with the current limitations we cannot send or start a text message directly through the pebble watch. We can only reply to a text once received.
But I noticed something. If someone sends me multiple text messages in a row, (as most people do, very few people actually say everything in one paragraph) a day or so later it is still in the notification section, and as long as I did not reply to that specific text, i can use the reply function any time to reply, and it will reply.
I would think in theory that pebble OS could capture one of those and use it to allow initiation of a text later and thus bypassing the security problems. Because it does not matter which reply in the notification screen is kept, any of them work.
That function to send a text was what I had mapped to long press of centre button and working even a couple of months ago before I jumped from the legacy/Rebble app.
Literally my decision to jump across was that given “send message” and health metrics would be the last features to replicate from the legacy app they would surely come soon so I’d jump over
Surely there’s not something in legacy pebble code that can’t be replicated. Perhaps just a matter of time still

So, is it part of the original code that wasn’t made available?
I don’t think it’s an Android thing because I can still initiate a text from my phone to my wife on my new S25, but the Pebble OS seems unable to hook through the messages app any more?
It was a key functionality I used as well and really look forward to it returning.
Yep it was up there with the utility of the Pebble displaying notifications for me, nearly on par as I had my canned messages carefully selected for repeat tasks/scenarios to do with friends,my wife, school routines, extended family and it allowed lots of being in public without pulling the phone out in company.
It woudl be nice for an Open Source project to be open about what’s “on the agenda” and what’s actively being worked on. “Open” in a regularly updated public list sort of way.
It woudl be nice for them to get the current Pebble up to what the Pebble could do 10 years ago.
I understand the interest to integrate Beeper, but it didn’t need that before and was integrated directly into the watch- it didn’t need the ring.
So, make it do what it did before - ought to be a priority
To be clear, the integration with Beeper won’t require the ring. The main issue at this point is that Apple and Google both have added more restrictions when it comes to sending SMS texts on behalf of the user.
I’m happy to install Beeper - was actually considering it to integrate all the various messaging apps that people are hitting me with.
Just want the functionality back in my watch.
