Can't reply to SMS on Android/Murena OS

Hello! Just received my Pebble Time 2 today, trying the various features.

Reply works just fine with Signal messages, but for SMS messages, the “reply” option is just not here.

I have 2 SIMs (one French, one Belgian) installed in my phone, and I live in Belgium. Does anyone have an idea why the problem could be ?

On the notification menu of the watch, these SMS/messages appear with a “bell” icon, whereas Signal notifications appear as chat bubbles.

The phone is on Murena OS, a degooglized version of Android. Didn’t try to answer phone calls yet with the watch; might try that as well to check if the issue is related to the mobile network or something.

The reply option is dependent on the messaging app you are using - it provides the actions which the Pebble app consumes.

So I’m using Google Messages for text. I didn’t have to do anything to start receiving notices about incoming texts. No problem reading the texts on the Pebble Time 2 or removing them from the watch when I’m done.

I tried to answer one as a test. I got a prompt about voice, and other choices. Tried voice, got a confirm screen with the transcribed voice, but when I hit send I get a picture of a car or something with FAIL! under it.

This is of course on an Android device. I have the Pebble app on there. Do I need to do something in that or install an app to make this work?

Forgot to ask. If an app is required, is there a current app for this? I’m looking on the app store and everything I’ve seen so far about texts and Pebbles is from 2014-2016.

Is there a standard one from Pebble now?

Extra. Tried again and this time it worked. By chance I had the app Brain Dump running. I have no idea if sending a text reply using voice worked just by chance or because I had this app running.

Thanks for the swift answer! By default, Murena OS uses a fork of Fossify Message for SMS. Tried this one as well, and it didn’t work. I’ve installed Textra, and voice reply works well with this app indeed.

So indeed, the ability to answer depends on the app used. I hope in the future the FOSS community might work on this, as using open-source apps is quite on par with using a Pebble watch. We’ll see how it goes in the future.

@tudza personnaly I didn’t install a custom app on my Pebble, so SMS reply works just “out of the box” if you use a “good” app for SMS on your phone.
