I was reading on Eric’s blog where he said that he sent a note to his wife using his index ring. Can we get that same functionality on the Pebble watch?
you want to text my wife??
Haha yes, this is probably something we’ll bring to the watch platform in future! You’ll need to be on Android and use Beeper though.
I thought that Send Text was on the agenda.
That would be great Eric. With the buttons on the pebble I could send text messages to my friends and family without even looking at my watch. Mind you, the app I was using on the old Pebble allowed me to have my favorite contacts in a list.

is this something that arises from the old “android wear” app where you guys utilised it to be able to initiate a text message from the watches even in 2015?
does that mean that in lieu of that app and the hooks/permissions it afforded theres not a direct way to do a fresh text now ?
from memory this is one of the things that was still working before I changed across from the legacy app and my understanding was they were going to just eventually add that in, not that there is something that logistically prevents it now in 2026 as such
That would be an awesome feature, would be super handy if/when available
I was wondering since they’ve already programmed it for the index ring how hard would it be to implement on the watch for Android?

Hi @eric, I am quite interested in having the Index functionality in the watch. Is there anything that can be done on the community side to help bring this through?
I know I can get pretty much there with a current app - binding a hold of a button to my app, and then letting go to record, pressing the centre button to confirm and then going back to the watchface. Just wondering if anyone knows how to tighten to loop to just a press and hold, speak and release?
I CERTAINLY hope so. It was one feature I used CONSTANTLY
I put out a new app called MirrorMsg that does just this. You can connect to all your chat apps, see pictures and more emojis in notifications, view all the conversation threats, and reply from the watch with voice, canned messages or emoji.
Looks interesting - Two questions:
Can you INIITATE a message on the watch to a preset recipient and send them a stored message or voice text, etc? That’s not mentioned on the app page.
The bottom of the app page says it needs a subscription, but then takes me to a subscription page for a different app. Does each app require it’s own subscription? It’s $5 a month to use the message app?
Funny you should ask, cause the app just got fully released on thebplay store.
For your questions: You can initiate new messages in any of your existing conversations, but there’s no UI to send a text to a send a message to ppl who arent in a pre-existing chat.
Subscription: I have 3 pebble apps, and if you sub to one, the code you get emailed unlocks all 3. If you just want MirrorMsg the $5mo/$50yr sub gets you that.
Eric, when reviewing the Index Ring, stated that he programmed functionality that allowed him to initiate a text message from his Ring to his Wife’s phone.
I responded that I would like that functionality in the pebble watch.
Eric in a recent Blog post said it is on the list for deveopment in concert with Beeper.
I also said I would like the app to have a ranking list of contacts determined by the user.
