I usually disable the backlight during the day because even if I ONLY want to use the two-touch input, it’s not possible: as soon as you press a button the backlight comes on. In a well-lit place you can’t even see the backlight, and it just drains the battery.
That could explain why a few more people have reported recent battery drops.
What I would like is an option to have the backlight turn ON only after a triple touch and stay ON until I triple-touch again. The triple touch is to prevents accidental activation. This way, if a notification appears I can dismiss it without the backlight turning on from a single button press.
I largely agree. I would (already) be hapy with the option to not turn on the backlight at button presses but still being able to turn it on with a double-tap (and have it go off after the time-out).
Only if you use Ambiant or Dynamic backlight and those are not super accurate and I prefer to turn off for now. I heard of a fix coming to better handle light condition. Also maybe disabling this sensor save battery? To be precise, the polling rate must be pretty high?
I was thinking the other day: how about not using a timer to turn off the backlight, but keep it on until the motion sensor detected you turn your wrist away? The sensor only needs to be active when the light is on, so it will not use much energy. Turning the light on can still be done with various methods.
Backlight is simply not working correctly.
I sent an e-mail in and they referred me to this forum (where I actually don’t see a genuine, dedicated bug tracker, but whatever) and the backlight programming on the PT2 is just bad.
I could only get at dim brightness. Fine for checking time at night.
Morning, not bright enough.
Set it to bright. Didn’t change.
Turned off dynamic backlight. NOW it’s bright.
but ONLY bright.
The Backlight sensor seems to ALSO measure the brightness of the backlight.
So in a given space, it thinks it’s dark.
If the backlight is on, it thinks it’s bright - but that’s it’s OWN light, not ambient light.
The you can watch the ambient sensor reading (in settings) change dramatically depending on when the backlight is on or off.
IMHO, the AMBIENT sensor shouldn’t see the backlight at all.
It should CONTROL it depending on the ROOM light it sees.
So I wonder if the sensor is not in the right place? There’s nothing blocking the backlight from the sensor? There’s reflection from the glass? any of those defeat the usability of the ambient light sensor.
