Before my PT2 arrived, I wore my OG, P Steel, and P2 around, just to ground myself in what I loved about the originals. (I’m a Product Designer by trade and believe in always staying true to the core of what makes things great).
There are two things I noticed when I got my PT2, and both are due to the higher resolution eink display. The most egregious to my older eyes is the size of the font of the OS. The best feeling out of my older ones is the orginal, and the P2 is almost too small…and the PT2, yeah, it’s tiny.
I’d love to have an option to increase the font size of the menu items in the OS.
The other is that I LOVE and have loved the Sliding Text watchface. But I can REALLY tell the resolution difference on eink. I’d love someone to update that watchface to be more crispy.
I have the same problem with the System font being too small. There is an option to change the font for Notifications and I would like the same option for the System font. I am a senior citizen and I have cataracts so this would be a big help.
Absolutely. I have a desktop magnifier I use while getting familiar with the settings. This issue made me wonder what the return policy is… but I know this is an evolving product.
I added myself to this petition; I was a user of Pebble since they were created, saw them die, then resurrect, and waited 8 months after payment for my watch, just to discover I can’t see the small letters under the menu without my glasses on. The Pebble OS may not have changed, but my eyes had, and there’s no setting to make it bigger.
Furthermore, this is the reason 90% of the apps are useless for me, and probably this is true not only for the eyes-strained users, but also for the users who wanted to have a Pebble as a minimalist device that keeps us away from our phone distractions, getting into the phone just the information necessary to get notified or selected messages, and maybe producing the minimal response. Can this petition become not just a new feature but a design philosophy?
Please! I just got my PT2, and it turns out my eyesight isn’t as good as it was 10 years ago. This big screen has plenty of space for a larger font size.
As a initial Pebble user, I am also so many years older now and have difficulties reading the menu entries. Why isn’t there an option to make the system fonts bigger? And there’s so much empty space in notifications, even if the fonts are bigger there should also be an option to make them bold. Seriousely this is a showstopper for me after wearing the new Pebble for a couple of days now - coming from an Apple Watch Ultra…
Even with the current font size, where most menu items on PT2 do not need full width of screen, some items may be truncated (eg. Gentle Wake (Dail.. displays for one app I use).
So, larger fonts should perhaps be accompanied by a way to ensure any hidden text can be viewed. Maybe by allowing wrapping, or by a scrolling marquee when highlighted?
Just adding my voice here, as someone with a visual impairment it’s great I can increase the font size of the notification text, I don’t understand why I can’t for the system menus etc.
Add me to this list! This would be a great addition. I did find putting backlight on blinding to help with readability quite a bit, but would still love an option to either bold or make system fonts bigger..
Any ability to adjust would be great in the future.
this has become a really big issue for me also. i loved my pebble time. but now i can’t use my pebble time 2 as i can’t read the notifications at all (poorer eyesight with age). desperately need to be able to increase font size on the watch.
@moeed I understand that the original post was about the system font size but if you haven’t already you can increase the notification size under Settings->Notifications->Text Size which should help with notifications at least. As @tom mentioned, while the canned replies are embiggened this way, the emoji picker is one area of notifications unaffected by this change.
As a new pebble user I am also struggling with the tiny system font on my PT2. Setting the alarm in the evening leads already to the first nightmare before even sleeping…
Yes, very much requested by me as well. My eyes are getting older, so bigger fonts will be easier to read. It’s the main reason now why I have to crank up the brightness of the backlight to maximum.
Ok then, I don’t think that this issue has any kind of a solution on the horizon. So I put my new Pebble right next to my first Pebble and switched back to my Apple Watch Ultra. Readability is way more important than battery time. Since I have two Ultras I don’t even have an battery issue. Maybe I will take the Pebble out of the drawer when I go on a longer holiday but as an every day watch I just can’t use it when the only good readable thing is: the time.
It is what it is: travelling back in time doesn’t even work on a watch…
I guess I’m finally getting old now. My eyes don’t like the tiny font, especially at night. Please let us choose a variety of system font sizes so we can customize how big we want it.
