Today I’ve used the workout app during a run for the first time. During the run I already noticed the avg. pace being way off what I would’ve expected. I recorded the run with strava on my phone as well, so I can actually show the direct comparison:
As one can see both the overall distance and the pace is off by quite a lot. I haven’t found any topics about that yet. Is that just me?
I didn’t expect a high-performance fitness watch when I ordered my pebble, but that level of (or rather lack of) precision is beyond anything I’d deem reasonable.
I am aware of and interested in that app, but unfortunately Bluetooth HRM sharing does not (yet) work with it.
Somebody gave me the rundown for the stock workout app in a reddit thread, basically that it does estimate pace and distance based on steps and size. That might be fine for a walk, but is very pointless for a run. As you can tell by the example data the step frequency tends to be very constant while running, that is not how one alternates the pace. As a fallback when GPS is not available that’s perfectly fine, but not as the default.
I haven’t rigorously tested it, but first impressions are not bad. Certainly good enough for some amateur fitness sessions.
