I recently noticed that my step counter is not tracking my steps consistently. The issue with step counting is more-or-less fixed if I go to Settings > System > Debugging > Motion Sensitivity and turn it all the way up to Very High. Unfortunately this also causes the backlight to be on almost constantly.
Possibly related: sometimes I get a “you just woke up” notification late in the afternoon claiming that I “just slept for ~10 hrs” even though I’ve been awake.
Since other motion-related features like wake-backlight-on-motion work fine consistently even at lower motion sensitivity settings, it doesn’t seem like a hardware issue.
Other things I’ve tried:
- Restart watch (hold Back + Middle + Down buttons)
- Factory Reset + Re-pair with phone
- Uninstalling all apps and watchfaces besides the stock ones
None of these things seems to have any effect. Only adjusting the motion sensitivity in the Debugging settings.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Could you do me a favor and submit a bug report in the Pebble app? Head to settings > phone > get help > new bug report. Thanks! We’ll be able to check out what’s going on with your watch.

Hi @Trevor ! Yep, I actually did that yesterday but figured I’d post here too, just in case someone could help me understand if it’s a commonly experienced issue or some kind of user error. Thank you!

Mine tracks steps consistently, but it’s also been consistently higher than my phone. It seems to have improved some with this latest Pebble update, but it’s still on the high side. It’s also not the same as my Pebble Time or my PTS when I’ve worn two watches to compare. They all count slightly differently, which is a bummer. I was really hoping for at least two of them to match closely enough to figure out which ones were measuring the same…
My OG Time and Time 2 is consistently a bit lower compared to my previously used Pixel Watch (Gen 1). I’ve got no idea tho which one is more correct.
The phone-based step tracking never felt very accurate for me, more like a “last resort” function to get any step counting at all if you do not have a dedicated device (using Nexus/Pixel phones for the last 16 years).
