How can I test the speech feature on my Pebble Time 2 (Firmware 4.9.157, Language en_US, v1, Recovery 4.9.142)?
I’ve tried with SMS and Google Chat notifications: I click middle button, select ‘Reply’ and then ‘Voice’. After a few moments I get “Dictation is not available”. I can reply with ‘Canned message’ and ‘Emoji’.
I’ve got ‘Speech Recognition’ set to ‘Cloud Only’ in the Pebble app (v 1.0.15.11; Android 16). I’ve also played with ‘Local Only’.
Ignoring speech recognition, how can I even test the microphone?
PS. Admins, please add “optional tags” such as ‘Android’, ‘iOS’, ‘Pebble Time 2’, … to make it easier to filter posts here.
Q2. Given the above, when can I reasonably expect the next release of PebbleOS with a fix to come out?
PS. I’m asking, and I’m sure I won’t be the only one with this question, because I’d like to be able to validate the hardware on the two devices that I just got before the 30-day warranty period runs out.
If you’d like you could download the correct version 4.9.158 for your devices (Obelix PVT) and try it out. We don’t give you estimated dates for when the next version will be released though, sorry!
also I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a Pebble microphone failing before, so that would be an exceedingly rare occurrence if that happened and I’m sure we could help you out.
I’m happy to try a devel version. I’m looking at Release v4.9.159 · coredevices/PebbleOS · GitHub right now - is that where I should start? I see several *obelix_pvt* files - which one? How do I go about from there? Download and open in the Android Pebble app, or something else?
Having a similar issue. Dictation will work the first time I use for a session, but if I try and use it a second time after like 10 minutes, I’m told that Dictation isn’t available.
If I reboot the watch, it works - but only for one session again.
Bumping to see if there has been any updates to the microphone’s functionality in the recent OS updates. My microphone doesn’t seem to work in the Pebble apps that I have tried to test it in thus far (Notes and Nirvanahq). I wasn’t sure if this issue is specific to me and my device, or if it’s a more global issue. Thanks!
These days you test voice support without a special Pebble app. For example,
Have someone send you an instant message (e.g. Google Chat)
When you receive the notification on your Pebble Time 2, click ‘select’
(middle button) and choose ‘Reply’.
Click ‘Voice’, speak into watch (e.g. say “Okay”), and click middle button to
stop recording. When done, you’ll see the transcribe message (e.g. “Okay.”).
Click middle button (check mark) to send. You’ll see ‘Replied’ briefly and
you’re back to the watch face.
You should see the reply in your messaging app (e.g. my Google Chat shows that I replied
with “Okay.”)
FYI, you can only reply once per message notification, i.e. after replying (by voice, canned messages, or emoji), there is no longer an option to reply again.
I just re-confirmed that this works on PebbleOS v4.11.0 with Pebble app
v1.3.1.4 running on Android 16. My ‘Speech Recognition’ settings in the Pebble app, is set to ‘Local (with Cloud Fallback)’, offline model (parakeet-tdt-0.6b-v3; 715MB), spoken language ‘automatic’, cloud recognition provider ‘Wispr Flow’ (cannot be changed).
I too have a question regarding dictation / voice recognition:
I have my phone and watch configured to English but communicate mostly in German. When using voice recognition to reply to messages, it tries to interpret my voice input in English even though the voice language setting is “Automatic” and I have voice cloud enabled. Is this a setting thing I can optimize or am I missing something else?
Thanks! Especially for the information on your speech recognition settings. I had mine set to “cloud only” because I didn’t fully understand the options initially, and I think that was part of my problem. I appreciate the help!
Hi. Just received my watch today and I already nearly love it.
To this topic, I found an useful app, for daily purpose, but it only uses speech recognition to add entries (Pendler2).
I get the same error messages as mentioned by other users here before, but I also installed a second Language pack(de_DE).
It has the Firmware v4.30.1, Obelix (Time 2)
Man, I love to just take a look at the watch and it uses the surrounding light. just e-ink
Like setay11 said, it runs for one session after reboot.
and Like Incendor said, it recognize “uh” instead of the train station I spoke.
Second session/next try did not recognize anything
I don’t know what happened. but it worked right now.
It recognized it correctly in German and sent it.
That worked only once now. Second test, ended n a loop, with a longer text.
3rd time with a short text worked again.
I put my money on: message size combined with sending the bits to the phone via Bluetooth and waiting for callbacks.
If this is right. I’m curious how well the index01 would do its job.
