Hello, I recently received my Pebble Time 2 and loving it. I am using it with my Sony Xperia 5 V phone, which is android based.
I am facing a problem where it seems that the voice-to-text dictation feature on the pebble does not work reliably. I am using a local model in order to do this, and have not tried (and don’t want to use) a cloud model. I noticed that whenever I try to use voice-to-text to reply to messages or notifications, or to use the Brain Dump app (which lets you dictate notes/tasks on the watch), it almost always fails. The progress bar would appear, move to around the 75% mark, stall, and then fail.
The only way to get it to work is to unlock my phone and keep it awake. Only then would it work, but it defeats the purpose of doing it on the watch if I need to pull out my phone every time.
I figured this might be due to battery optimization settings, but I checked all of the settings on the phone and it’s disabled from what I can tell.
Also, when the phone is locked, it’s not like the watch completely disconnects from the phone. I still receive notifications and can still do web-based activities. For example, I have a Google tasks app which retrieves data from the internet, it still works if the phone is locked.
Has anyone else encountered this issue and was able to fix it, or can at least provide some tips on where to look?
This works for me. Seems like it’s a problem with using the local model while the phone is sleeping. Thank you for this workaround. I was trying to avoid using the cloud, but I guess this will work for now.
My guess is that the local model requires much more processing power than a simple cloud request, power which the phone cannot provide while it’s sleeping. Maybe there needs to be some kind of override for this.
I havent submitted a bug report yet. Will do when I get the chance.
After using the cloud first then local fallback for a while, have to agree. It’s not 100% reliable and it can be frustrating. Not sure where the problem might lie
