I couldn’t find anywhere the currently supported version of PebbleOS on the OG Pebble watches. My Pebble Time LE E487 is showing v4.4.3-rbl, where PebbleOS change log (as of Dec. 1st) is on v4.9.91. So I presume the v4.9.91 is for the new watches Pebble 2 Duo and Pebble Time 2, right?
It would be useful to add this information to reppeble.com site, or is it legally problematic to add OG (legacy) Pebble watches specs - product information to the main site?
it does work fine with the OG pebble’s tho? I am thinking about getting a Round 2nd hand….
Well, as per problematic to add OG pebble info on the site: Doubt so, as Google gave Eric all the assets back to him free of charge (except the old domain which they keep using to redirect to their Fitbit store).
I second the idea that there should be some archival sites regarding classic pebbles!
That’s correct! The PebbleOS changelog only relates to new Core Devices watches (Pebble 2 Duo and Pebble Time 2), whereas any legacy devices from Pebble Technology Corp use the -rbl variants of the firmware. We’ll see what we can do about making that information a bit more clear upfront.
I’ve been looking for the same info for a few days, and I just found this thread today. Thanks for sharing.
I used to have a Pebble Steel years ago (before Apple Watch), but I eventually switched to an Apple Watch and gave my Pebble away (big mistake).
I’ve always liked Pebble, so I was sad when Fitbit acquired them, and even more when Google acquired Fitbit. When I saw the recent news about Pebble coming back, I started following the updates again. The Round 2 announcement was what finally convinced me to jump back in. It looks like exactly what I want: light, thin, great battery life, and focused on notifications.
I already preordered one, but to make sure I’d still enjoy the Pebble experience, I grabbed an OG Pebble Time from eBay in great condition. It arrived with PebbleOS v4.4.3-rbl, and it works perfectly with my iPhone using the Pebble app from the App Store. I’ve been using it for about a week now and I’m honestly loving it again. The Apple Watch will probably just become my “gym tracker” going forward.
One thing I’m still trying to find is the Pebble Time manual. I’d love to better understand all its features and how they’re supposed to work. For example, I can’t figure out how to trigger “taps”, or whether that feature even works on the current firmware.
Anyway, I’m happy to be back on Pebble and I’m excited for the new watch to arrive later this year.
