It may be more to do with the fact that the curved face shrinks small sources:
That’s a square light which almost exactly fills the screen on the PT2 but is showing as a third the size on my Time Steel.
I find that on the PT2 even when there is glare like above, the screen is often entirely legible, because the flatness of the screen means that only one eye is affected by it and my brain merges the view from the other eye to give something legible (as long as I focus on the screen and not the light source).
( I’m short-sighted. When I used to wear simple contact lenses, I sometimes only wore one in one eye so that I could still see close-up in poor light. I think this is called monovision. I would see obviously blurry text which at the same time was pin-sharp and readable - quite an odd sensation. )
THat’s very interesting that your Time Steel has the same reflectance as the Time 2.
Mine clearly does not- as you can see the same light stretching clear across both watches, but the reflection is much darker on my Time Steel.
I got more of my older watches and they all have two reflections- a flat one from the internal screen, and a “shortened” one from the curved top glass. and neither of them is as bright as the Time 2

I know it won’t satisfy everyone, but fortunately, you can get a lot out of it with a screen protector. There are now several vendors offering these for the new Pebble Time 2. The one I bought, unfortunately, doesn’t fit 100% and is a little too small. But it’s still acceptable, and it’s definitely an improvement. The touchscreen continues to work flawlessly.
