Calendar integration doesn't work

I have added my Phone Calendar (on Android) but haven’t found a way to add any entries to my calendar. Regardless of what phrases I use, at best I get things added to Google Tasks. And the Tasks integration is lacking in that it doesn’t support times for reminders and tasks without a time are only shown in the dedicated Google Tasks app, but not Google Calendar (phone or web versions).

There’s no info on the calendar integration on the FAQs and Tips page, and I also haven’t found any information here or the Github repo.

So, has anyone found a way to add transcriptions to their Google Calendar? Combined with a PR on Github (removed the direct link since that’s apparently considered spammy) that would for a great end-to-end integration for me.

It looks like you could at the very least do it through Tasker? Though it sounded like there were some issues with the Tasker integration where it would force Tasker to be the foreground app. And also Tasker’s an additional paid app, it would be cool to have first-party integration instead.

Yes, I considered that path but adding another app to make the Index01 work that I bought to simplify things doesn’t make much sense.

Fair enough lol

Mine seems to be working on this end. (Android). Are you using the trigger phrase “Add Event” or “Create an Event”? Example: "Create an event on September 1st. ‘Meeting with PR Team at 9am’

You can also just say ‘this coming Tuesday’, or ’Tuesday’.

I think using the word ‘Event’ is key.

See if that works for you.

Note that is can sometimes take a short spell to appear on your default calendar. So if you don’t immediately see it, check back in a few.

In the Pebble App, look at your feed. That command should indicate a calendar :tear_off_calendar: event has been created. You can click on that newly created event from within the feed, and it will open the calendar, and you should see the event. At least that is how it works on my end. Your experience may differ.

What I found is that the entry goes into my phone’s default calendar (in my case it’s called ‘PC Sync’) rather than my default Google calendar. I can’t find a way to specify which calendar should be the default.

The latest Pepple app update explains my issue: In the Index settings, it now says that adding calender events isn’t supported when using the local LLM.

Not sure what the reasoning might be as the transcription works just fine:

Unless someone has any insights here, I’ll probably file a bug in Github and maybe have Claude figure out how to work around that limitation.

There’s a Pull Request with an enhancement for being able to choose which calendar entries are added to. Unfortunately, it’s been waiting for a review for a week or so already: Let the user choose which phone calendar Index adds events to by ohthehugemanatee · Pull Request #351 · coredevices/mobileapp · GitHub

Okay, there’s a new nuance here that I had missed:

This setting limiting adding calendar entries is about the “agent model”, not the transcription LLM. As soon as I changed the agent model to cloud, adding calendar entries works:

I still don’t see a reason for this limitation, and will ask about it on Github. But still, progress.

I wonder if you could disable the default phone calendar app? Do you have the official ‘Google Calendar’ installed from the app store? If not you should install it. If it asks during installation to set it to the default, you should so.

You may also try the following: (it’s an AI generated suggestion, so I can’t vouch for it. But, perhaps worth a try)

Hide “PC Sync” so you don’t accidentally use it

If you don’t use PC Sync, you can completely hide it so it stop cluttering your view:

  1. Tap the Menu (three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner of the calendar app.
  2. Scroll down and tap Settings.
  3. Look for PC Sync under the account list.
  4. Tap it and turn the Sync toggle OFF (or uncheck it). It will no longer show up on your main screen.

Okay, going through the app’s source code, I found a comment explaining the rationale behind calendar and beeper messaging being cloud-only for now:

I do have Google Calendar installed. The “PC Sync” calendar doesn’t even appear on it, so there’s nothing to toggle off. I’m not sure if toggling a calendar off like that would change what the Pebble app considers the default anyway.

I’m using a rooted and heavily modded Mudita Kompakt, so likely my configuration is odd and may not behave in the way everyone else’s does.

Perhaps there is a setting in the phones Default Calendar app that you could toggle to keep it from being the ‘default’, then the OS might revert to Google Calendar?

Another option would be to try to disable PC Sync via android’s general settings, and see if that helps direct the new events to Google Calendar.

Settings>Apps

Best of luck with it.

The funny thing is that Mudita’s stock calendar does not use this either. ‘PC Sync’ comes from the local-only default calendar in AOSP’s calendar app.

Claude tells me that the voice capture uses AndroidSystemCalendar.createEvent() → findPrimaryWritableCalendarId() in libpebble3/…/AndroidSystemCalendar.kt:504 to write the event:

That function’s logic, read directly from source:

  • Queries calendars where CALENDAR_ACCESS_LEVEL >= CONTRIBUTOR (deliberately unordered — a comment there explains ordering by IS_PRIMARY crashes some providers).
  • Walks the results in whatever order the provider returns them (which is _id ascending on this device).
  • Picks the first calendar where account_name == owner_account (“own primary” heuristic), falling back to the first writable calendar if none match.

“PC Sync” trivially satisfies account_name == owner_account (both literally “PC Sync”, how Android’s LOCAL calendar type is conventionally structured), and it’s _id=1, the lowest. Your actual Google primary (xxx.xxxx@gmail.com, _id=6) satisfies the same condition but arrives later in the scan, so it never overwrites the already-locked match.

It says that if I delete the ‘PC Sync’ calendar, that should solve the problem. I’ll test.

This really isn’t a dealbreaker for me, just thought it might be useful to others who want to get Google Calendar to work. As for me, I’d prefer using a CalDAV calendar as my default, so it doesn’t matter to me if this works.

Confirmed that deleting the local calendar worked for me. Test event went to my Google calendar.
