If you need some fresh material or just want to trigger some exasperated sighs from your friends and family, this app delivers over 1300 of the finest, most agonizingly punny dad jokes directly to your wrist.
To make sure the punchlines really land, the app triggers custom audio stingers right from the watch speaker. You can set it to play a classic “Ba-Dum-Tss!” rimshot, a descending circus march, a vintage watch beep, or a perfectly timed flatulence noise. You can even use the settings to schedule random joke alerts to surprise you and/or your loved-ones throughout the day!
For the developers out there, the custom audio engine and native UI were built using the standard framework components outlined in pebble_sdk_reference.txt. It was incredibly fun turning the standard hardware APIs into a tiny, wrist-worn comedy club.
The project is completely open-source and available to download now. I hope it brings some laughs to your day!
Here is the quick rundown of what is new in this release:
Polyphonic Chiptunes: I completely rewrote the PCM audio engine for watches with speakers to support 2-channel polyphonic sound. You can now choose themes like Super Mario, Zelda, or the Mexican Hat Dance. The new “Random” setting also tracks your history so you won’t hear the same tune twice in an hour.
Timeline Integration: You can now opt-in to have a “Joke of the Day” pinned directly to your PebbleOS Timeline without even opening the app.
Let me know what you think of the new tunes or if you spot any weird layout bugs!
