PLEASE:
There’re a lot of lost, forgotten apps that were functional during the Pebble golden years. I know there’s a lot of people programming for the new Pebble, but I fear they forget to re-make a lot of useful apps that no longer work.
I miss the music-remote that worked with iOS (companion app needed; I bought it; it no longer works). There’re a lot of good, abandoned ideas for making wonderful apps and faces. (Thank you, “Dalpek”, your watchfaces are incredible).
I’m using an original PebbleTime… its battery lasts just for barely a day, and my days are counting down! I’m waiting for my new Pebble Time 2, but I haven’t even received confirmation e-mail yet. OK, let’s hope it’ll be here for the summer.
I don’t know anything about programming. So, I humbly beg for your effort, dear developers.
New Pebbles are a nice and unexpected surprise. But WE NEED good software. Please!
“Pebble users” is not a very big number… but they’re faithful & loyal customers.
There’re new hardware parts in new devices, and they could be used in a creative way. Pebble always was about STYLE. As a smart watch, Pebble is absolutely unique. The secret is the e-ink screen, that makes the watch a solid, “normal” object. You look to the object. LCD or OLED glass emit light; they behave completely different, they “represent” a watch in a computer screen. Pebble is a traditional watch: is always there, and reacts to light as normal artwork does.
…And my prophecy: Apple will discover e-ink for a next new success with AppleWatch. (Refresh speed used to be the problem, and big advances have been made in e-paper tech).
E-ink will be ideal for some uses: TFT screens are just bad in motorbikes because of the sunlight, e.g.
First of all: a Music Remote for iOS. I had one. It’s not in the Appstore anymore, as the companion app (I paid for it) for the iphone stopped working and disapeared also. It was gorgeous, with dithered cover of the album being played. I bought the then needed aux app (was cheap) and believe a lot of Pebble users are on iOS.
…There were a few more… but I miss that one so much!.. When driving or running, I could see what was playing at a glance, and the covers were BEAUTIFUL on Pebble color screen.
(I keep using the system music remote, but it’s dull and text is small and uninspiring).
Come over to Android, the water is nice and hot . Jokes aside, I feel for you, iOS/Apple have really limited what other smartwatch manufacturers can do on iOS.
To create iOS companion apps that communicate with Pebble, PebbleKit is required. It bridges the companion app with the Core Pebble app (and then the watch).
Core has said that there are no plans to implement a PebbleKit for iOS, not because they don’t want to, but because then can’t, Apple is preventing it.
If you do hop over to Android, your dreams of having a beautiful, feature rich media/music app will come true (I’m biased ).
BUT I use devices based on their respective capabilities. I’m a Mac user and prefer to choose phone-computer continuity.
I love PEBBLE due to its faces and the e-paper feeling. I don’t know about programming, and my message was for apps and spheres makers. It’s informative, to let them know that iOS users are eager to pay for good apps. It’s nice that android doesn’t need backing apps; iOS does need them. I thought programmers go where there’s some money to earn.
Anyway, all important stuff works with iOS flawlessly.
But there’s a good amount of nice things to do with new Pebble from the programmer perspective, I believe.
What about that blood pulse sensor? I haven’t seen an app that puts it to use yet. Pebble shows info ALL the time, and backlight can also be used to communicate. What about different color hue depending on heart speed?
And what is that sensitive screen for? Well, it’s an opportunity for a developer, I think.
Perhaps my message seemed about me, but it wasn’t. I’m talking to individuals that are able to take profit from iOS users. I rarely pay for apps, but I spent happily for Pebble related ones for my iPhone. Yes: Android doesn’t need companion apps on phone. So, money (some) is on iOS apps. I just wanted this detail to be known.
