Pebble Android App Availability

Firstly, as a long time Pebble user, I’m loving my new PT2. Thank you to everyone involved.

Now my request - please, please, please can you release the android Pebble app on F-Droid as well as Google Play or at least as a downloadable APK on the Github site.

I don’t have GAPPS on any of my phones which means I can’t install apps from Google Play.
I’m currently borrowing my son’s phone, installing the Pebble app, extracting the base and split APKs using ADB and then sideloading them to my phone. It gets a bit wearing after a while

Can you make the app available to us Google free folks please ?

Thanks

Iain.

It would be super nice for them to actually provide releases in GitHub at the very least. But in the meantime you can use something like this to download them: GitHub - onyxbits/raccoon4: APK Downloader for Google Play · GitHub

Thanks. I’ll take a look.

I’ve also just spotted a de-googled fork of the Pebble app with telemetry removed, called Gravel.
In the interim while Core contemplate my request I think I’ll give that a go.

There’s also Gadgetbridge and microPebble, though both lack some features that Gravel/Pebble have.

Can’t you just download and install it directly from Google Play?

From the original post:

I’d like this a lot.

I have the Play Store on my phone via GrapheneOS’s sandboxed play services, but I’d rather not have to have it just to use my watch.

Would much prefer being able to plug a URL into Obtainium and just have it download the APK directly.

By the way, in the interim, you could always use Aurora Store? It’s a private proxy for Google Play. That said, it does have the issue inherent to it being a proxy, which is that if Aurora Store was ever compromised or chose to do something malicious, they could theoretically modify the APKs being downloaded.

From F-Droid, you can install Aurora Store, and, from here, get access to the Play Store Apps
