I know that apps (and maybe watchfaces as well) can bundle custom fonts. But I’d like to be able to add language support (e.g. for Kannada) by just sideloading a font (which would I guess get processed the same as bundled fonts and current system fonts).
Rather than relying on Core Devices to add all possible fonts (which may not even be reasonable), allowing us as users to sideload fonts much like we already upload apps and watchfaces would be really useful.
You can, they’re called language packs. There should be a list available from within the Pebble app (I can’t help you with finding that option, I don’t use the Pebble app) and there are others available online:
Huh, interesting. Seems like Kannada isn’t on the list (yet) haha…maybe something I can work on at some point. It seems to be harder to find them through the Pebble app than Gadgetbridge.
Thanks, this is really helpful! I generated a pbl file and would like to send it to the watch…do you know how to do it? Unfortunately the repo isn’t particularly clear haha…
Also, what is your experience with Gadgetbridge and a Pebble? I have a PT2 FWIW and am hesitant to try using Gadgetbridge instead of the Pebble app (then again, maybe it’s best to do it now when I can quickly redo the setup if necessary lol).
Ah, figured it out. You literally just transfer the file to your phone and open it with the Pebble app .
Open the PBL app from your phone, you should have the option to open it in the Pebble app. I use microPebble, a project started back when the Pebble app wasn’t open source. It has fever features than the Pebble app but it has less AI-generated code and isn’t made by Core Devices so I am mostly happy with it. I haven’t tried Gadgetbridge, so can’t speak to that one if you want to switch between Pebble/microPebble/Gadgetbridge/Gravel apps you’ll have to completely remove the current one.
Ah, good to know! Just not sure if all of the functionality I need right now is in the non-official apps (and right now it’s enough for me that the Pebble app is open source).
Anyway, this was resolved way sooner (and easier) than I had thought! I’ll have to play around with different ಕನ್ನಡ fonts, but I have notifications working now where they’re not just big boxes lolol. Thanks!
