While spending some time thinking about what I want from my watchface, I stumbled into an idea, which would imho be a great quality of life feature. The idea is the following:
- Have multiple profiles defined by the time:
- “Leisure” profile - Default whenever the none of the other profiles are active
- Work profile - Setup weekdays and hours you work on and during those it will automatically apply the work profile
- Sleep profile (optional) - Setup sleep times and during those it will automatically apply
- Holiday profile - Have a toggle (or plan by date range) when either a specific holiday profile will be active or just prevent the work profile to apply while active and stick with “Leisure”
- Optionally more custom defined profiles that can be enabled manually
- Have other apps trigger (e.g. Automate or similar) trigger a profile change (intents / IPC), which would enable more advances use-cases like location-based profiles or a workout-profile when e.g. a notification from strava/komoot/… is present
- Expose the active profile (and maybe even the times) to developers
- Allowing for single watchfaces that adjust the displayed information / behavior depending on the current use-case
- Enable various settings to be per-profile
- Watchfaces (High prio) - Have a different watchface for each profile to be able to cater the actual needs (e.g. appointments for work, weather for leisure, sleep tracking for sleep)
- Quick-Launch buttons (Medium prio) - Have different quick launch buttons depending on which profile you’re in
- Notifications (Medium prio) - Enable notifications for work/personal apps only while their respective profile is active to avoid unwanted distractions either way
- Power-relevant settings (Low prio) - You could e.g. disable HRM or turn down the backlight during work to save on power.
While some of my ideas might be going a bit far (the more advanced options), just having that info available for developers and being able to have multiple watchfaces that change automatically would imho already be such a game changer.
