Store phone numbers in watch to have them available if phone runs out of battery

It would be nice to be able to store at least some phone numbers in the watch.

If the phone runs out of battery you might have them available.

Thanks

That is exactly the case TTMM Codes was built for. Twenty entries live on the watch under colored tags: the label stays visible on the list, the number opens with a tap for thirty seconds. Everything is set up on the watch and nothing leaves it, so a flat phone changes nothing — the numbers are still on your wrist.

One thing worth knowing for your scenario: the app has three levels of protection, and the strongest one encrypts the entries with a key that lives on your phone. For numbers you want precisely when the phone is dead, stay on the open or PIN level.

How it works, screen by screen: TTMM Codes — Touch Vault App for Pebble Time 2 | TTMM.IS

It installs from TTMM’s own stream in the Pebble appstore, apps.ttmm.is — 48 hours free, then $2.99 once.

Thanks!

I installed the app (why it isn’t in Pebble and Rebble stores?) but I can do nothing, there’s a lock near watch’s center button.

The padlock is the edit lock, and it is the first thing everyone meets. Press SELECT — the centre button — twice, quickly: editing unlocks and the padlock goes. It locks itself again after 20 seconds without a touch, so a sleeve in a coat pocket cannot rewrite your numbers. Reading is never locked — a tap always reveals an entry.

To add your first one: with editing unlocked, tap an empty row, pick a tag, type the label, and the number goes on the second line. Hold UP for half a second if you want to reorder later.

As for the store — it is in one, mine. TTMM publishes through its own stream inside the Pebble appstore: apps.ttmm.is. In the big listings apps get lost among thousands of others; on my own shelf I can keep things in order, add each utility as it ships, and put the full description beside it: TTMM Codes — Touch Vault App for Pebble Time 2 | TTMM.IS

The clockfaces I am working on now will live there too — on the TTMM Stream only.

If anything else stands in your way, say so here.

Perfect, exactly what I needed, I bought the app, thanks!

In my opinion you should publish your app/watchfaces in Pebble app store too.

“All Watchfaces” and “All Watchapp” categories are sorted chronologically, therefore when people check those categories, new or updated items are at the top. I always check if there’s something new. Anyway, I think it will do no harm to publish your creations there too.

Regarding the app, if you don’t mind I have a few suggestions.

  • In the app the first time you run it I would explain that you have to push Select twice to unlock.
  • When you enter characters, the first screen has numbers, if you press down you have letters QRST, then IJKL, then ABCD… In my opinion if you press down you should have ABCD, then IJKL, then QRST.
  • I don’t like haptic feedback when I scroll the screen with finger. I would leave it when you enter characters. Anyway a setting would be nice, there are people like me that don’t use haptic feedback at all, on the phone too.
  • The website address to purchase the app is not easy to read, the font is very small; I told this to another developer who increased the size of the font.

Keep up with the good work!

Thank you — and thank you for buying it.

On the store: yours is the good argument, and it is the one people give me most often. I have gone the other way on purpose. In a list of thousands my things get lost; on my own shelf I can keep order, add each utility as it ships and put the full description beside it. The clockfaces I am building now will be there only. You already have the stream added, so new TTMM work arrives at the top for you the same way.

Your four notes are all fair, and this is the kind of mail that changes a build.

The unlock. You are the second person to meet the padlock before meeting the app. That is a fault in the first run, not in the reader — it gets a hint.

The letter order. Pressing UP from the numbers walks the alphabet forward, ABCD then IJKL then QRST; DOWN walks the same cycle backwards, which is why QRST met you first. Try UP and tell me whether that is what you expected. If most people reach for DOWN first, the pages should turn the other way, and I would rather learn that now than after ten more entries.

Haptics. A good distinction — scrolling and typing are not the same gesture. Rather than add a switch, I would take the buzz off scrolling and keep it where it confirms a character. Tell me if you would still want it off entirely.

The purchase address. That screen is drawn by the payment library, not by me — which is why it is the one screen in the app set in a typeface I did not choose. I can take it over and draw it myself. Noted, and thank you for the push.

Have great TTMM,

Albert

You can’t do that in the Rebble/Core Devices stores?

OK for your haptics solution.

I think of a page with numbers at the top and then letters.

My eyes read the upper part of the page (numbers) then go down and read letters.

Therefore I would push down button not up button. Perhaps it is me but I feel it counterintuitive.

Regarding store, hadn’t you replied to my post I wouldn’t know of this app and other apps/watchfaces of yours. I don’t think the average user visit this forum and does it in great detail. Isn’t it possible to publish your apps in both stores?

Thanks!

Fair question. On the literal point you are right — those stores let anyone upload an app and write a description, and my TIC collection sits in both the Pebble and the Rebble store today.

The first reason is narrower than taste. I have decided to design for the Pebble Time 2 only, and TIC was drawn for the older screens — there is no emery build in it. Both stores will still offer it to a PT2 and scale it up. I understand why that exists; people want their old favourites back. But work of mine that was never drawn for that screen should not arrive on it looking almost right. My own feed serves only what has a build for the watch that asks, so the question never comes up.

The second reason is my own time. Before I had my own stream I spent tens of minutes going through the stores to find one app, and hours when it came to watchfaces; my attention gave out long before the list did. On my own shelf my things stand next to each other, in an order I chose, instead of being interleaved with everyone else’s and sorted by date. I think that is worth something to whoever opens it, too: one hand, one mark, and you can tell before you open it whether it is for you.

It costs me the listings, and I know it. New things there get announced; mine do not. I made that trade on purpose and I may turn out to be wrong about it — a year will tell.

And it is not meant to stay mine alone. The code behind my feed is on GitHub under MIT, with a live demo running on ordinary shared hosting — GitHub - ttmm-sp-zoo/pebble-feed-starter: Host your own Pebble appstore feed — static JSON plus a small PHP router. · GitHub. Anyone here with the same organising problem can run their own channel alongside the stores, without asking me for anything.

That’s why there’s the “more from this developer” button? Also it’d be nice if you actually wrote stuff out yourself instead of posting whatever LLM crap this is.

Yes, I know the “more from this developer” feature. It does not change my own feeling of being lost in too much choice. That feeling is why in 2014 I offered the TTMM collection for Pebble through my own iOS and Android apps, which almost nobody did back then. Today, thanks to the developer stream Eric announced a year ago, I can have my own channel. A small and separate offer saves a lot time for me personally.

About the AI. My English is poor, so I write with a help. It makes me correct and clear, but it takes my tone away with it. Your remark was useful: on a forum the tone is important, it is how people “know” who is talking. This one is mine, mistakes included.

I see, I think that makes sense for the store.

I at least much prefer the non-AI. If it’s faster to use AI, I’m not going to (nor can I) stop you, but it reads so much more like a real person this way, and doesn’t look like all the people asking about their Index 01 using AI generated responses

Nice. Thanks for understanding my point of view and I respect yours. We are living in an interesting era where codes speaking for ourselves.

Honestly, your English is perfectly fine! There are native speakers who make more mistakes than you do

Definitely prefer folks who write without the help of AI, even if they make mistakes, than folks who use AI to ‘polish’ their writing (which leads to a ‘flattening’ of tone).

Nope it is not I still need help in writing but I will try to use my own voice as much as I can.

You can use “member card” to keep virtual contact card or notes on the watch.

It could be a solution, thanks!

Unfortunately notes characters are very small.

You can store them as vCards, meaning they show up as QR codes which you can then scan with your phone.

Nice option, but if my phone battery dies, I would like to get my numbers without having to find another phone to scan QR codes.

At the moment TTMM Codes is the best solution for my needs.

But I like the fact Member Card lets you enter numbers on the phone. I asked to the coder to increase notes text size.

Hahahaha fair enough! I figured if you were going to call from another phone anyway, you presumably would have access to that phone’s QR code reader, but yeah .
