Changing Note types
If I’ve added an item and changed it to a Checklist item, the next item I add defaults to Note (plain text) and then I have to manually edit the item in a whole different screen to change it to a Checklist item… rinse and repeat for every new item (and it requires 5 taps if you’re starting from the Index dashboard, and 4 taps if you’re already viewing an item and moving to a different item — very tedious!)
It seems like Lists should follow the same format, so if it’s a List of Notes, every item should be Notes. If it’s a List of Checklist items, all items should be Checklist items (or at least, there should be a default setting for the entire list).
Google Keep has this distinction for each card, where it’s either a Checklist type, or a free text note, but no combination of the two. I can’t think of many use cases where I’d want both, but I wouldn’t want that disrupted for anyone already using that. Maybe one case is having “heading” items as Notes, with Checklist items below it to help group items.
There’s also no way to re-order list items — like a tap+hold and drag (or drag bumpers like Google Keep has).
I realize most items are intended to be added using the ring, but for manual management, it’s a huge pain if I need to correct a ring’s note/reminder if it’s wrong.
Note notification behavior
If I tap the notification for a new note, it takes me to the log for it, which seems more useful for debugging than actually managing the item itself. While there’s a shortcut to the Note from this screen, that means it takes 3 taps to get to the Note I just created that’s probably the wrong type (Note vs. Checklist item). ![]()
To conclude
The navigation and ease-of-use needs radical reconsideration in the Pebble app if it’s going to prove useful for people. It can’t have 2-3x more friction than any other note-taking app on the market. This is a good opportunity for me to create a deeper integration with Google Keep through my MCP server (or webhooks), which is a great alternative option in light of my grievances with Pebble’s notes.
I also know this is all really early, but even for a first iteration, it really misses the mark ![]()
