What I need help with
v4.0 is a HUGE release. I’ve been testing it myself, but so much has changed that I’d really appreciate more eyes on it before publishing it to everyone. Please report anything you find here (or on the GitHub pull request)!

How to install the test build

  1. Go to https://github.com/skylord123/pebble-home-assistant-ws/actions?query=workflow%3A"Build+Pebble+app"+branch%3Adev
  2. Click the top run
  3. Scroll to the bottom and download pebble-home-assistant-ws PBW
  4. Unzip it on your phone and open the .pbw with the Pebble app, or use the load PBW button at the top right of the Apps tab

Installed it. I’m not a very active user. Just checking whether doors are closed and using the assistant from time to time.

Will it automatically update with a newer version from the appstore again, or do I need to remove it and reconfigure it when using the app store version again.

How easy/hard is it to generate Assist spoken responses on the phone and then have the Pebble speaker read them out loud?

Update: I do like the new Assist screen a lot, it also seems to have more readable text.

Sideloaded apps don’t autoupdate. You’ll have to uninstall and reinstall, though your settings should be saved in the phone cache (you may need to open settings then save it again)

So far no issues. Now that I’ve used it a bit more than normal I do have some suggestions:

  • Like with the new Pebble firmware please support a bigger font in the menus/options
  • At least with pinned items, color coding them based on state would be cool for a very quick glance (e.g. green = on, red = off)
  • Being able to configure an attribute instead of the state of an entity to show as second line, e.g. with pinned items, would be awesome. Example: show the set preset of a fan entity instead of its on/off state.

I will have to look into this. This has been on my radar but I haven’t come up with an implementation that I find acceptable yet. This works for entities with binary states but other entities with multiple states would be another whole can of worms. My thinking it to maybe put a dot next to the state for binary sensors that is colored based on its state. That or coloring the icon.

I will have to dig into this further and come up with a good way to handle it.

This is interesting. I will have to look into this. Not sure yet if it should be per entity or per domain (fan, HVAC, etc). Also I imagine some users will want to show the state and attribute(s) (such as On - High).

If we just update it to show more information based on the domain (so fans always so their speed/preset) would that work or would you still like you be able to customize it?
