Backlight colour automatic change by time of day

It would be nice to be able to change the backlight colour by the time of day.

For instance one colour from e.g. 06:00 in the morning till 18:00 in the evening and another from 18:00 in the evening till next day morning and for one self to change the hours and colours, not the UI. Or even a third time/colour interval.

Seems to me that, rather than Pebble making a universal change for all new watches with RGB backlighting, you could contact the developer of your favorite watchface and submit this Feature Request. Presently, I have asked the developer of my favorite watchface if he could add a “Red in QT” switch in his Settings so that the backlight color changes to Red during Quiet Time.

This would be even better to be set relative to sunrise and sunset, respectively

Like Night-Shift on macOS and other platforms. What would good backlight colors be post sunset? I’ve switched my backlight to #F0A1A6 to give a pleasant pinkish hue.

While on the backlight topic, what settings is the community using for “Ambient Light Threshold” and “Motion Sensitivity”.

Strongly disagree. This is a change to watch functionality. I use different watches during a day. your suggestion does not scale.

I see your point. Unlike you, I just use one favorite watchface, which I only want to change during Quiet Time.

I’m with @richard.wonka on this.

It has to be a Pebble UI feature as I also use different watch faces depending on circumstance, mood, testing and so on. Asking every individual developer is a no-go, with all due respect @Den_in_USA, and waiting for them to implement the feature in their respective interfaces will also lack the uniformity the Pebble UI could give, just by adding it to the Pebble’s Display settings. No need to poke around in different apps in different places.

I would like to be able to set the color, the time from/to and minimum 2 (two) different intervals, like day-/night time.

Regarding color, most go with red, red’ish or orange at nighttime and that might be O.K. if you look at your screen for several minutes in dark conditions. But look carefully and you realize that things get a bit blurry. Pick a light green or lime color and things sharpen up. So for short “time-checking”, “pop-ups” and the like, I use the lime green option. We persive green as being sharper.

The science being: We have millions of light receptors called cones - in our eyes. The human eye is most sensitive to green light (approx. 555 nanometres), which is close to the wavelength typically emitted by green lasers (e.g. 532 nm). This is because our M-cones (sensitive to green) and L-cones (sensitive to red) are optimised to perceive shades of green more effectively than red light … according to Wikipedia, Niels Bohr intitute ect. ect.

Look it up yourselves, pretty interisting stuff. About our eyes.

Cheers

@BowMan, I totally agree that a scheduled Backlight color should be in Pebble OS. I took the quick route by contacting the developer of my favorite watchface. Very interesting point you made about the lime green color. In my case, my Backlight color changes to something not so intense because in the evening (when Quiet Time is enabled) I only look at my watch to check the time. I actually prefer using WhisperClock in the middle of the night, but even with a very low volume, it woke my wife.

@Den_in_USA I just had a go with WhisperClock but my hearing isn’t that good anymore so un-installed it again. Interesting concept though but I’ll stick to double tapping the screen - had to disable twist as it lit up ever so often unintensionally. To sensitive setting? Don’t know. Maybe just me.

About the Mrs. It’s the other way around here … she wakes me up

Cheers
